Ski Touring Skills Course with Pacific Alpine Guides

For Mike from Maryland and Seth from Connecticut, this was their first time skiing in the Olympic Mountains, an introduction that couldn’t have been better: sunny, cold temperatures, amazing views, and well preserved powder skiing on virtually all aspects.

On Saturday we toured in the Maggies zone practicing with tour planning, gear, the trailhead 3 function check, uphill movement skills including various kick turns and rounded turns, companion rescue, and off-piste skiing technique. On Sunday Mike and Seth planned a tour for us out to Hurricane Hill, which proved to be an excellent objective for the day, putting all of these skills into practice. On top of Hurricane Hill we practiced emergency shelter construction before dropping into the south glades, 1,000′ run offering incredible “hero” snow. Great course!
