Tyler has skied, climbed, and guided around the world, and specializes as a human-powered ski guide, leading a diverse array of programs in the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and Alaska, with annual expeditions to Chile, Antarctica, Japan, and Russia. He grew up on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, introduced to backcountry skiing in the Olympic Mountains at the age of 13. Tyler founded Pacific Alpine Guides in 2011, with a vision of creating inspiring programs in remote mountains around the world.
He is an AMGA Certified Ski Guide, has AIARE Level 3 avalanche training, and is an AIARE Level 2 course leader. He is a G3 Gear and BCA athlete and has pioneered numerous first ascents and descents in the Olympic Mountains and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
Besides the mountains, his other passions include reggae music, surfing, and exploring the world with his wife Melissa. In 2016, they climbed the Northeast Ridge of Mt. Everest together. They live in Winthrop, WA with their daughter Kaia.
